The Registered Sanitarian (R.S.), Registered Environmental Health Professional (R.E.H.P.) and Registered Environmental Health Specialist (R.E.H.S.) credentials reflect the highest level of expertise and competence in the environmental health profession.  Registration is voluntary in the state of Florida, so those awarded the credential demonstrate a high degree of personal initiative and long-term commitment to public health.  Registered professionals are more likely to be up-to-date on the latest advancements in their field and are better equipped to direct the activities of others.  Registration enhances credibility in communicating risks, serving as an expert witness, or discussing environmental health issues with other professionals or the general public.

The standards for registration in Florida meet the requirements of the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and have been adopted by FEHA.  Once you have received your FEHA credential, you may apply for and receive the NEHA credential; our organization maintains a reciprocity agreement with NEHA in order for you to obtain the NEHA credential and any other state with a similar agreement will recognize the Florida credential.

To be eligible for the R.S./R.E.H.P./R.E.H.S. credential, applicants must meet education and experience requirements established in our bylaws then successfully pass a national exam covering all aspects of environmental health, including bioterrorism and disaster preparedness.  Once registered, individuals must complete and submit continuing education hours to the Registration Board and adhere to a professional code of ethics.  They’re also active in professional and community-based activities.

As organizations strive for a more talented workforce, registration provides an incentive for employees to increase their job-related value by developing and maintaining new skills.  Employers and customers benefit from the enhanced quality of services that registration can impart.  This is especially true during difficult times, like natural disasters or budget reductions.

Registration is an accomplishment that will generate a sense of pride on a personal level while attracting recognition from your peers on a professional level.

So...what are you waiting for?

Just a little reminder

All continuing educational contact hours (30) are due by December 31, 2012.  Please review your hours on the attached spreadsheet.  Once you have reached the required (30) hours there is no need to continue sending additional hours.

All hours received are now posted.  Persons whose names are highlighted in red are not in good standing at this time.  To return to good standing, you must submit 30 hours that were earned in 09-10.  You will then receive an invoice for renewal and you must pay a late fee.   If the information posted is incorrect, please contact me directly, Howard Rosen, R.S., 954.720.5803.  Those in Bold have met the 30 contact hours for the 09-10 biennial period.

Don’t forget to complete the Continuing Education form (CEF)each time you earn hours.  I maintain a folder for each registered professional and keep track of the total number of contact hours awarded.   For more information regarding
